Manufacturing & Facilities Director

Department:Manufacturing
Title of Immediate Supervisor:Vice President of Manufacturing
Summary: This position is responsible to develop plans and strategies for the direction and administration of company's manufacturing activities, including facilities, inventory, receiving and safety & environmental, to attain objectives based on corporate goals and policies.

KEY RESULT AREAS
A.Assists with the development and formulation of long and short range plans, policies, programs, operating procedures and objectives.
1.Prepares capital expense recommendations.
2.Plans personnel requirements based on forecasts.
3.Directs the preparation of operational budgets.
4.Analyzes and recommends manufacturing organizational structure.
B.Develops and maintains an effective organization through selection, training, and motivation of all manufacturing personnel. Develops management talent necessary to obtain short and long range goals by effective direction, counseling and training.
1.Works with Human Resources to develop training programs.
2.Meets weekly one on one with supervisors.
3.Holds monthly manufacturing meetings.
C.Directs maintenance or physical condition of the facilities through a systematic program of repairs or through initiation of fixed capital requests when this action appears economically more appropriate.
1.Meets weekly with the Facilities Supervisor.
2.Makes recommendations on purchases and repairs of equipment and building.
D.Maintains close surveillance over operations through perusal of reports, staff meetings, observation and personal contact to assure coordination and integration of work flow, timely production, budgetary conformance, schedules, utilization of personnel, skills, machines, equipment and facilities.
1.Reviews departmental budget vs. actual monthly.
E.Initiate, direct, advise and otherwise expedite various programs that will solve manufacturing and related problems leading to improved quality, decreased effluent pollution's, lower costs and overall efficiency.
1.Monitors Scrap and Rework within manufacturing.
2.Meet weekly with the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering.
F.Directs and coordinates various programs essential to manufacturing procedures, e.g. training, safety, housekeeping, work simplification, cost reduction, wage and salary administration, plant protection, worker involvement, security, etc.
1.Heads Safety Committee.
2.Meets with Human Resources on compensation and workers compensation.
G.Maintain an effective occupational evaluation, current and up-to-date job descriptions, and employee performance appraisal system for training and compensation.
1.Reviews job description annually.
2.Monthly follow-up system on performance appraisal given.
H.Directs the various department supervisors in the preparation and implementation of operating plans and strategies consistent with agreed to-business plan.
I.Works with the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering to develop improved manufacturing methods, layouts, equipment and techniques and submits recommendations for approval. Conducts a continuous cost reduction program through the plant.
J.Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations issued by OSHA, EPA and federal, state and local regulatory agencies.
1.Directs activities of Environmental, Health, & Safety.
K.Directs and coordinates Receiving, Crib, and cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy and on-time delivery of orders.
1.Meets weekly with Materials Manager.
2.Reviews inventory and on-time shipment reports.
L.Coordinates and manages major projects as directed by Vice President of Manufacturing.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Desired Education and Experience
B.A. degree in Industrial Management or Industrial Engineering or B.A. degree in Business Administration with coursework in Engineering or Manufacturing or equivalent combination of work experience and education. Minimum of eight years experience related manufacturing experience including three years supervisory experience.

·Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other regulations affecting the manufacturing industry.
·Ability to implement and enforce safety regulations.
·Ability to develop and implement long and short-range plans and programs.
·Strong mathematical skills for budgeting, expense tracking and report analysis
·Ability to utilize computer.
·Solid knowledge of entire production operation.
·Ability to work independently.
·Ability to work long hours and flexible work schedule.

OTHER PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THIS JOB
Talking/Hearing: Must be able to exchange ideas and convey information to employees and
vendors accurately. Ability to give and receive detailed information through verbal communication.
Standing/Walking: At least one fifth of work day is spent walking through and observing the production operations and meeting with support departments throughout the company.
Fingering: Frequent use of computer keyboard and calculator.

Position requires the use of near, mid-range and far vision with clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less. The ability to judge distance and space relationships to see objects where and as they are.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Incumbent must be able to use computer, calculator, and telephone.
